Winnipeg’s iconic La Salle Hotel is calling for volunteers to help sandbag the 95-year-old inn on the Red.
"The water rose about two feet last night," a hotel employee said Sunday.
About 20 people were sandbagging behind the hotel perched on the Red River Sunday afternoon, and about three times as many are needed, said the man, who didn’t give his name.
Volunteers have been sandbagging at the hotel on Nairn Avenue since Tuesday. With more snow and the river rising, the situation is become more dire.
"We need help."
Volunteers are asked to show up, or call the hotel at 668-5367.
